"On April 21, 2025, Japan's Consumer Affairs Agency (CAA) requested that businesses voluntarily inspect food products containing Food Red No. 3 (Erythrosine, CAS 16423-68-0). This applies to products in tablet, capsule, powder, or beverage form that include a recommended daily intake on their label. If the estimated intake exceeds the acceptable daily intake (ADI) of 0.1 mg/kg/day, businesses must report to the CAA by May 16, 2025, and take any further necessary actions. This move follows the U.S. FDA’s decision to revoke authorization for the use of Food Red No. 3 in food, beverages, dietary supplements, and drugs. In response, Japanese authorities have launched a safety assessment of the additive."
