On January 29, 2025, the European Commission issued Regulation (EU) 2025/140, amending Annex I of Regulation (EC) No 1334/2008 to include the flavoring substance (E)-3-benzo[1,3]dioxol-5-yl-N,N-diphenyl-2-propenamide (FL No 16.135) in the Union list of authorized flavorings. This decision follows a safety evaluation by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), which concluded that the substance poses no safety concerns at the estimated levels of dietary exposure. The regulation specifies maximum usage levels for this flavoring in various food categories, such as 250 mg/kg in certain foods, 500 mg/kg in category 5.3, and 150 mg/kg in category 5.4. The regulation will enter into force 20 days after its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.
