The European Commission has officially authorised freeze-dried mycelia of Antrodia camphorata as a novel food under Regulation (EU) 2015/2283 via Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/882. This approval follows EFSA’s favourable safety assessment, confirming the novel food is safe for consumption under proposed conditions. The ingredient is permitted exclusively for use in food supplements for adults, with pregnant and breastfeeding women excluded from the target population. The regulation sets a maximum daily intake of 990 mg for this novel food when used in food supplements. The regulation includes detailed specifications covering compositional purity, microbiological criteria, and permissible limits for heavy metals and aflatoxins to ensure product safety and quality. Freeze-dried Antrodia camphorata mycelia are now added to the Union list of authorised novel foods annexed to Implementing Regulation (EU) 2017/2470, including labelling obligations and use conditions.
