EFSA opinion on monacolins from Red Yeast Rice: monacolins from RYR were restricted in 2022 to 3 mg/day (from 10 mg/day previously) and put under community scrutiny. When a substance is put under scrutiny, additional data is gathered and within 4 years a decision is taken about banning or further restricting the substance itself, after hearing the opinion of EFSA. After a review of the available evidence, EFSA concluded that monacolins from RYR raise safety concerns even at levels lower than 3 mg/day.
