On 4 February 2026, the World Trade Organisation (WTO) circulated an addendum at the request of the delegations of Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda.
The addendum updates WTO Members that the Draft East African Standard DEAS 1086:2021 - Plastics Codes for resin identification on plastic containers, First edition has been adopted by Tanzania on 31 October 2025 as the national standard TZS 4055:2025 / EAS 1086:2023 - Plastics - Codes for resin identification on plastic containers, First edition.
This harmonized East African Standard (EAS) specifies the standardized resin identification codes (RIC) to be marked on plastic containers, facilitating recycling, waste management, and consumer awareness across the East African Community (EAC). The adoption by Tanzania represents formal implementation in one of the notifying member states.
