The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced plans to renew its authority to collect information related to nutrition labeling requirements for raw meat and poultry products sold in retail markets across the United States.

The action is being undertaken in accordance with the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995 and associated regulations administered by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). Under this process, federal agencies must periodically seek approval to continue collecting information from regulated entities and the public.

FSIS stated that it intends to request renewal of the currently approved information collection covering nutrition labeling of major cuts of single-ingredient raw meat or poultry products, as well as ground or chopped meat and poultry products. The collection supports the agency’s oversight of compliance with federal nutrition labeling requirements applicable to these categories of products in retail settings.

According to the agency, no changes are being proposed to the existing information collection framework. The renewal request simply seeks continued authorization to collect and manage the data necessary for monitoring compliance with nutrition labeling rules and ensuring that consumers receive accurate nutritional information for raw meat and poultry products.
The current approval for this information collection is scheduled to expire on July 31, 2026, and FSIS is therefore initiating the renewal process to maintain uninterrupted regulatory oversight. Maintaining this authorization allows the agency to continue gathering the information required to administer labeling regulations and support consumer transparency in the marketplace.
