On 5 February 2026, the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) updated guidance on registering with the environmental regulator under Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for packaging. UK organisations obligated under EPR must register their organisation, pay registration fees, and report packaging data, either directly or via a compliance scheme. Large and small producers have different deadlines and fees, with additional charges for online marketplaces, closed-loop recycling, or subsidiaries within groups. Registration requires submission of organisation details, brand and partner information via CSV templates on the Report Packaging Data (RPD) service. Once registered, organisations must maintain accurate records, update information within 28 days of changes, pay waste disposal fees, and meet recycling obligations through Packaging Recycling Notes (PRNs). Non-compliance can lead to cancellation of registration.
