The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued Advisory No. 2026-0271, warning healthcare professionals and the public not to purchase or consume the unregistered food product “SWANSON Garcinia Cambogia Herbal Supplement.”
According to the FDA, online monitoring and post-marketing surveillance activities confirmed that the product is not registered with the agency and does not have a valid Certificate of Product Registration (CPR). As the product has not undergone the FDA’s regulatory evaluation, the agency cannot assure its safety, quality, or compliance with national food regulations.
Under Republic Act No. 9711, the manufacture, importation, exportation, sale, offering for sale, distribution, promotion, or advertising of health products without proper authorization is prohibited. The FDA warned that establishments distributing or selling the product may be subject to regulatory enforcement actions and sanctions.
The FDA has requested concerned regulatory authorities and local government units to ensure that the product is not made available in their respective jurisdictions. Additionally, the Bureau of Customs has been directed to prevent the importation or exportation of the product, as well as other unregistered food products.
The advisory further notes that the market authorization holder may request the lifting of the advisory by submitting a formal petition along with a valid CPR, photographic evidence of the compliant product in its final commercial packaging, and a copy of the advisory for verification.
Consumers and stakeholders are encouraged to verify the registration status of food products through the FDA Verification Portal and to report any sale or distribution of unregistered food products to the agency.
