Kenya has proposed a revised East African Standard (DEAS 63:2025) for beer, aiming to harmonize quality and safety requirements across the region. The draft outlines specifications for ingredients, processing, classification (from non-alcoholic to strong beer), and permissible alcohol content. It mandates compliance with hygiene, microbiological, pesticide, heavy metal, and aflatoxin limits. Packaging must use food-grade materials, and labeling must include alcohol content, ingredients, origin, and statutory warnings. The standard also defines sampling and testing methods to ensure product safety and consistency.
