Indonesia’s Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) issued an official notification (P-550/KB/HK.00.1/7/2025) detailing the phased implementation of mandatory halal certification for imported products. Effective 17 October 2026, food, beverages, meat, slaughterhouse services, and other regulated products imported into Indonesia must possess halal certification issued by a BPJPH-recognized foreign halal body. If not certified by a recognized body, importers must submit complete supporting documents such as ingredient lists, production process details, and certificates of analysis to qualify for halal recognition.

This policy aims to ensure compliance with Indonesia’s Halal Product Assurance Law and strengthen consumer protection. BPJPH also emphasizes the importance of registering foreign halal certificates through its system and continues to expand mutual recognition agreements with international halal certifiers to facilitate smoother cross-border trade while upholding halal standards.
