On 11 March 2026, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) announced the suspension of four FSSAI-notified laboratories from carrying out food sample analysis under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The suspension has been imposed for a period of six months with immediate effect.
The decision was issued under Regulation 10(2) read with Regulation 10(1)(iii) of the Food Safety and Standards (Recognition and Notification of Laboratories) Regulations, 2018. The affected laboratories include Intertek India Private Limited (Food Services), Gurgaon; Italab (Goa) Pvt. Ltd., Goa; Idma Laboratories Ltd., Panchkula; and Bureau Veritas India Testing Services Pvt. Ltd., Central Laboratory, Hyderabad.
During the suspension period, these laboratories are not permitted to conduct analysis of samples under the FSS Act and its associated rules and regulations. The regulatory action is part of FSSAI’s oversight framework to ensure the reliability and integrity of food testing laboratories recognized under the national food safety system.
According to the order, any laboratory aggrieved by the decision may file an appeal within 30 days from the date of issuance of the order, in accordance with Regulation 11(1) of the Food Safety and Standards (Recognition and Notification of Laboratories) Regulations, 2018.
