On July 8, 2025, FSSAI reinforced strict food safety and hygiene norms for e-commerce platforms across India. In a high-level meeting with over 70 representatives from leading platforms, the CEO directed mandatory display of FSSAI license numbers, warehouse details on the FoSCoS portal, and compulsory hygiene training (FoSTaC) for all food handlers. Emphasis was placed on full compliance with the FSS Act, transparency, and accountability across the entire e-commerce food supply chain to ensure consumer safety. FSSAI also encouraged platforms to promote the Food Safety Connect App, which allows consumers to access verified food safety data and lodge complaints. Discussions included the potential requirement to display expiry or “use by” dates for food products at the point of sale to enhance consumer awareness and safety.

These measures are part of FSSAI’s broader strategy to bridge the regulatory gap between digital and physical food ecosystems, ensuring that every entity—from manufacturers to last-mile delivery agents—is accountable for food safety. The initiative reflects a strong commitment to consumer protection, supply chain transparency, and public health, setting a new benchmark for compliance in India’s e-commerce food landscape.
