FDA proposes revoking standards for 11 food products no longer sold in the U.S., aiming to reduce obsolete regulations and enhance consumer protection. The United States has issued WTO notification G/TBT/N/USA/2226, proposing updates to its regulations on food contact substances. Specifically, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) intends to amend the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) to remove certain substances from the approved list for use in food packaging and processing equipment. These changes are based on new scientific evidence and safety assessments, which suggest that some previously authorized substances may pose health risks or are no longer used in practice. The proposal supports the FDA’s ongoing efforts to modernize food safety standards, reduce exposure to potentially harmful chemicals, and ensure that regulations reflect current industry practices.Stakeholders are invited to submit comments during the open consultation period, allowing for public input before the final rule is adopted
