On 19 January 2026, the Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety, through the European Commission’s Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS), published the Minutes of the Working Group meeting on Nanomaterials in Cosmetic Products held on 12 December 2025, summarising expert discussions on key safety and regulatory issues. The meeting reviewed ongoing safety evaluations and draft mandates for specific nano-ingredients, including nano-hydroxyapatite, nano forms of silver, gold, copper and platinum, styrene/acrylates copolymer (nano), sodium styrene/acrylates copolymer (nano), as well as commonly used nanomaterials such as titanium dioxide (nano) and zinc oxide (nano). Members assessed data requirements for future risk assessments and exchanged updates on regulatory developments under the EU Cosmetics Regulation, highlighting the need for robust scientific evidence to ensure consumer safety in cosmetic products containing nanomaterials.
