The European Union has officially authorized a new feed additive—riboflavin (vitamin B2) produced from the microorganism Eremothecium ashbyi CCTCCM 2019833—for use across all animal species. This authorization was formalized through Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1254, adopted on 25 June 2025 and published on 26 June 2025.The additive is approved in the form of a dried, inactivated fermentation product, classified under the nutritional additives category and the functional group of vitamins, pro-vitamins, and chemically well-defined substances having similar effects.

This decision follows a favorable scientific assessment by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), which evaluated the safety and efficacy of the additive based on data submitted by Hubei Guangji Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. The EFSA concluded that the additive is safe for animals, consumers, and the environment when used as intended. The regulation entered into force 20 days after its publication in the Official Journal of the EU, making it a trade-facilitating measure that supports innovation in animal nutrition while maintaining high safety standards.
