Egypt has notified the WTO of a draft national standard (ES-1521) for canned finfish, aimed at enhancing food safety and aligning with international benchmarks. The notification was circulated on 17 July 2025, with comments open until 15 September 2025.
Applies to canned finfish intended for direct consumption, including food preparation, with no further processing except inspection, testing, size grading, or repackaging.
Objective: Focused on food safety, ensuring product quality and consumer protection.
International Alignment: Conforms to Codex Standard CXS 119–1981, revised and amended through 2018.
Affected Parties: All trading partners are impacted, as the regulation applies to imported and exported products.
Comment Submission: Stakeholders can submit feedback to Egypt’s National Enquiry Point at the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation.
This proposed standard reflects Egypt’s commitment to harmonizing food regulations with global norms and supporting safe trade practices.
