Consultation Open for Proposed Poisons Standard Amendments on Sunscreen Ingredients

From July 8 to August 12, 2025, the Australian government is seeking public submissions on proposed amendments to the Poisons Standard concerning sunscreen ingredients homosalate, oxybenzone, and benzophenone. These proposals will be reviewed at the joint September 2025 meeting of the Advisory Committee on Medicines Scheduling (ACMS) and the Advisory Committee on Chemicals Scheduling (ACCS).

The consultation invites stakeholders and the public to provide input on potential scheduling changes aimed at ensuring the safe use of these ingredients. Relevant consultation documents are available through the official consultation hub, and accommodations are offered for accessibility needs.

Submissions received by the deadline will inform the committees' advice and subsequent regulatory decisions regarding the scheduling and control of these sunscreen components.
