On June 17, 2025, the Australian Federal Gazette website published Announcement F2025L00686, formulating standards for cell cultured foods, which will take effect on June 18.
(1) Definition: Cell cultured food refers to food obtained from cultured cells isolated from livestock, poultry, game, seafood (including fish), and eggs;
(2) General requirements prohibiting the use of cell cultured foods in special purpose foods;
(3) Labeling requirements: Food labels containing cell-cultured foods as ingredients must indicate "cell culture" or "cell culture" after the name of the ingredient in the ingredient list. If the label indicates through text/image that the food is derived from a specific animal, the food name must include the term "cell cultured"; if the label does not indicate through text/image that it is derived from a specific animal, a name or description sufficient to indicate the true attributes of the food may be used.
